Calling 2015 the year of Kendrick Lamar may be selling him somewhat short. The Compton mega-star cemented his early career with the indelible masterstroke of To Pimp A Butterfly earlier this year, but Lamar is still earning plenty of well-deserved accolades.

His newest is perhaps one of his largest, being named a Generational Icon for California's 35th district. For the honor, state Senator Isadore Hall III showered the 27-year-old with praise not only for his work in the music industry, but for his ties and philanthropic work with his native city. Watch the video of Lamar receiving the honor below and refresh your memory of To Pimp a Butterfly.
