Label Mates III kicked off at The Shacklewell Arms on March 6th, so we're getting to know the bands and labels involved. Next up is the brains behind the festival itself, Keith Miller from Bad Vibrations.

The Rundown

Home to?
We've put out live tracks by The Wytches, Fat Whites, Tripwires, Bonfire Nights, Cosmonauts, Dead Skeletons, Night Beats, Lola Colt, Holy Wave and a studio album by Asteroid #4.

When did it start?

What was your first release?
Live at Bad Vibes #1.

How did it start?
It's always been the plan to have a label but we pulled it together a bit in late 2013 when we were sitting on 50 or 60 live recordings of our shows. Then we sat down and worked out how much everything would cost and tried to move it forward.

The best thing about running a label?
Definitely the admin and accounts. It's fucking ace doing that.

We've kind of been through the pain of setting it up in the last year so we're looking forward to the fun stuff this year. Chasing bands, going to see new stuff and getting demos from great bands (which is always the best bit when a good band sends you some new music). We got a great one the other day so fingers crossed you'll see it coming out on shiny wax soon!

What do you look for in a new artist?
The same thing as everyone else I guess - a band or an act that makes you excited to be there or something that makes you want to listen again straight away, or think 'that's cool, how did they do that?' or just something that makes you feel different. There's a tiny section of synth on 'Continental Shelf' by Viet Cong that just makes me think 'yeaaaah' when it comes in. I guess that's what I'm looking for in a song/band/album.

What artists are you guys spinning the most at the moment?
Viet Cong, Alvvays, Corners, Dead Ghosts, Eagulls, Dustin Wong, Noveller, Joanna Gruesome, Kevin Morby, Morgan Delt, Ought, Hookworms, Pond, Dignan Porch, TRAAMS, Wand, Bombino, Ultimate Painting, Total Control, Useless Eaters, Theo Verney, Parquet Courts, King Gizzard, Nils Frahm and Tobacco.

Slightly Older stuff like Coachwhips, Amen Dunes, Jonestown, The Babies, The Growlers, Crystal Stilts, Devo, Pure X, William Oneyabor and early Black Angels always hits the spot too.

Stuff to keep an eye out for in 2015?
Yak, Kagoule, Spires, Weaves, Baby In Vain, Clawmarks, Heaters, Girl Band (finally got into them!), Kikagaku Moyo, Skinny Girl Diet & Whistlejacket who I manage!

Bad Vibes take over the Shacklewell Arms Thursday March 12th. Tickets are available here.
