North Carolina passed its controversial HB2 law, or Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act this past March, which prevents transgender people from using certain bathrooms. Outrage was supported by artists like Bruce Springsteen, Ringo Starr, and Pearl Jam, who all canceled their recent NC concerts in protest. While artists like Father John Misty chose to donate their profits to LGBTQ charities rather than opting out of shows, Against Me! took things a step further.

Over the weekend, Against Me! played a show at North Carolina's Motorco Music Hall that saw frontwoman Laura Jane Grace protest the bill by taking a lighter and burning her birth certificate while stating passionately, "Goodbye, gender!"
