Sad and unexpected news for all children of the noughties: Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington was found dead Thursday morning, victim of apparent suicide. He was just 41.

According to TMZ, Bennington hanged himself and was discovered by his wife at their house in Palos Verdes Estate in L.A. County. The rest of the band has yet to release an official statement, with co-vocalist Mike Shinoda saying he is "shocked and heartbroken". The tragic news coincide with what would have been Chris Cornell's 53rd birthday, also a recent and unexpected loss.

Linkin Park had released their seventh studio album One More Light last month, with the band's sound shifting towards a more electropop vibe, which granted them mixed to unfavourable reviews. They remain nonetheless one of the most successful alternative/nu-metal bands of the 2000s thanks to hits like 'Numb', 'Crawling', 'Breaking The Habit', and 'One Step Closer'.
