Oh Land’s cover of ‘Bloodbuzz Ohio’ is an altogether lighter affair than The National’s original version. Nanna’s vocals, of course, are higher and more delicate than Matt Berninger’s customary baritone, and add a slightly more positive tinge to the song; even if she’s still singing, "I never thought about love / when I thought about home."

Removing the guitars and replacing them with an understated synth sound with light electronic beats was a masterstroke of genius. The song is delicately twinkling, and all the more ethereal for Nanna’s whispy vocals. Her second album, though already released in her own country of Denmark back in March (and charting very highly), is out in the UK in November, and if this cover is anything to go by, should be more than enough to cement her popularity over here.
