Låpsley's voice isn't the only thing that makes 'Painter (valentine)' so majestic; you have to credit the tracks spacious production for finding a sense of equal grandeur within pure minimalism. All it takes is a music box pattern, a modest helping of piano chords, and a beat so light it's also subliminal. It's not unusual for a young singer to come out of nowhere and be able to drop jaws with nothing but their own, but it is rare for one to arrive with their creations wrapped in perfection. You could call it the start of a new trend, someone similar just won a shelf full of Grammys after all, let's all hope Låpsley's future will be as bright.
