Sweet soul samples aren't rare in rap music, they're usually window dressing, used to create an aura that helps each verse flow together. But what Chicago's TREE, aka Tremaine Johnson, does is rare, rare enough to gain its own tag anyway.

It's known as 'Soul Trap' and it's the first thing he says on the 'More Than You Know'. His husky soulful raps hang effortlessly with the gorgeous high-processed croon of the female 'I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know' sample. Working as a gravelly counterpoint as the smoky jazz blasts and untethered piano keys from hotly tipped-producer Thelonious Martin weave between the two voices. Listen to it just once and you'll realise that this probably isn't the last you'll be hearing of the term 'Soul Trap'.
