What starts off as a coolly minimalistic track ends as an expansive explosion of electronic goodness. Literally with just vocals and mini-sounding bass thump, 'Slopes' by Yorkshire boy-girl duo Litany (Jake & Beth) builds up through soft and twisted synth chords that eventually raise their pitch madly and become sharper, fizzier, a blanket of spacey sound on which the starkly beautiful vocals – telling a story of longing and low self-esteem – lie languorously, beset with mouth-made bustlings of percussion in the track's climax. 'Slopes' is where confessional romantic poetry meets future R&B, a love letter written with the clean-cut cool of this winning style of music.
