Besides releasing one of 2013's most acclaimed albums, it also appears M.I.A. might have the most expensive middle finger in history.

Since the singer's performance at the 2012 Super Bowl halftime show - during which she flipped the bird - the NFL has been pursuing her relentlessly and are now demanding a total of $16 million in damages (almost £10 million). They're after $ 1.5 for alleged breach of contract and $15.1 in "restitution" for the value of public exposure the singer received during her performance (for which she wasn't paid).

"The claim for restitution lacks any basis in law, fact, or logic," explains M.I.A.'s legal speaker, claiming that "continued pursuit of this proceeding is transparently an exercise by the NFL intended solely to bully and make an example of Respondents for daring to challenge NFL."
