Earlier this year, M.I.A. dropped off her audio-visual project Matahdatah Scroll 01 Broader Than A Border around a time where she was, according to the musician herself, advised not to release it because of "cultural appropriation concerns". At the same time, she announced plans for a larger project entitled 'Matahdatah' and yesterday posted the artwork to her new single 'Borders' on Instagram. The full track is now online and like much of her material, there's something of a social message behind it. Centered around the line "what's up with that", she then reels off a list of issues including politics, broke people, privilege and police shots.

No official word on when Matahdatah will be released, but all bets are on sometime in the New Year.
