It is going to be a big year for the Magic City Hippies, a Miami-based funk trio with an exciting debut LP looming just on the horizon. Today, the band is offering listeners a taste of what they have in store for 2019 with their sun-soaked new single 'SPF.'

Building from a spare and atmospheric intro, 'SPF' is an immediate earworm, but it takes nearly a minute before letting its hair down. But once the rubbery bass takes center-stage, with an ass-shaking drum part filling in the background, the song kicks into overdrive. It isn't difficult to imagine 'SPF' soundtracking some sweaty dance parties this summer. But the song's lyrics are surprisingly melancholic.

"'SPF' paints the story of a man trying to find love in between the grooves (of a record) since his partner found love somewhere else," explains multi-instrumentalist Robby Hunter. "He spends the night in someone else’s arms, gets drunk and has a wild night with a stripper...but in the end he’s truly only in love with his partner, the one that keeps him grown up, the string to his kite."
