Arguably the most influential and prolific performance artist working today is set to open a school, dedicated to performance and long durational work. Even at the age of 66 Marina Abramović is still working hard, recently appearing at the MOMA in New York with Jay Z during his 6-hour performance. The institute looks set to become an innovative centre at the forefront of developing new art and also how audiences experience art.

The school, which will open in 2015, will pursue an active role in contemporary culture by forging productive unions between art, science, technology, spirituality, and education. How it intends to do this is not particularly clear, but regardless it is an exciting prospect and opportunity to push boundaries. Perhaps this is to act as Abramović's legacy as she starts to step away from the public realm.
