Label: Unsigned Release date: Already available via myspace Link: Myspace Having only just got together last year, Marthas & Arthurs are already ones to watch. Their first EP Apes in Aeroplanes is simply beautiful. It’s not often that I fall in love with a band straight away, and these guys are already pulling at my heartstrings. Their sound is a mixture of all things magical; add Slow Club, throw in a bit of Camera Obscura and mix some Belle and Sebastian in there and you might just have the idea. Apes in Aeroplanes brings together four tracks from the band, each one of them different in their own way and full of enchanting harmonies. ‘Clamour for a Fudge’, delves straight into perfect piano playing and cute storytelling. With both male and female vocalists that form a perfect noise, the song instantly makes you smile. My personal favourite of the bunch, ‘Sally Started It All’ picks up the tempo with bopping and drum tapping alongside the ever so wonderful harmonies. The girls of the band show us what they can do with a slight solo at the beginning until the gentlemen return to give them a hand. ‘Counting The Colours Till Friday’ and ‘Will you marry me?’ complete the EP, both of them still very much keeping me happy. With the first using piano and solo voice whilst the other jangling drums and acoustic guitar; their sounds are innocently sweet. Her future sure looks bright and this EP is hopefully just the beginning for this lovely bunch. Marthas & Arthurs are simply divine, beautiful and talented. And lucky for us they appear to be looking for an Arthur who plays bass to join them! If only I did... Photobucket
