"I was 17, I was in love, and it hurt," are some of the most simplistically honest lyrics I've heard in a while. But although simple - in its written form and in its acoustic excellence - Merival's emotional depth is heavy and drawn out in her soft voice on new harmonic folk single 'Kicking You Out.'

Channeling her youth but upheld by her maturity, Merival tackles her first heartbreak with the utmost vulnerability, indulging in her emotions and that moment in time where it feels like a broken heart could last a lifetime.

"I remember feeling morose, thinking about the boy I was in love with at the time. I’d been hanging on to being in love with him for 2 years. He was lukewarm mostly, sometimes cruel, and very occasionally interested in me. It was a roller coaster and I was a bit pathetic about it. So I was thinking about all that," she tells Vents mag about the single.

'Kicking You Out' is from Merival's forthcoming LOVERS EP, which will become available on January 29.
