The road to Nirvana being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility has been as little rocky. First, Bleach-drummer Chad Channing was snubbed, and then people started to realise that this is going to be like the eighth major celebration of Nirvana's significance within the last two years.

But you should try and put all of that out of your mind, because the Hall has picked a pretty awesome inductor for the Seattle legends. Michael Stipe will do the honours, a great choice as Kurt Cobain was a huge R.E.M. fan who became closer friends with Stipe during the final years of his life, close enough to make him the godfather of his daughter, Francis Bean.

Elsewhere,Peter Gabriel will be inducted by Chris Martin, Hall and Oates by Questlove, Linda Ronstadt by The Eagles' Glenn Frey, and KISS by Tom Morello. The most obvious pairing has to go to Bruce Springsteen welcoming his longtime backing band the E Street Band into the Hall of Fame. There's really no one else it could've been.

The ceremony takes place on April 10th at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.
