Japan’s progenitors of slow build guitar lushness, MONO, have a significant birthday at the end of this year, and to celebrate they have organised three amazing shows in London, collectively titled Beyond The Past.

Friday 13th December sees a genuinely special bill of Boris, envy, Årabrot and Svalbard play The Oval Space. A matinee show on Saturday 14th at the Village Underground features Nordic Giants, A.A. Williams, Jo Quail and Floating Spectrum follows next, before MONO themselves play the Barbican with guests Alcest. MONO’s set will feature the Platinum Anniversary Orchestra to add to the depth and nuanced musical spaces that the four-piece conjure up. If you are unfamiliar with MONO then (a) shame on you, and (b) think elongated stretches of twinkly twilight exquisiteness before episodes of skull crushingly heavy distortion. Go listen to 2009 album Hymn to the Immortal Wind as an introduction to everything beautiful about them.

Tickets for Beyond the Past go on sale this coming Friday June 28th, with a Barbican members pre-sale on Thursday 27th from 10am. All three of these shows are bound to be special so don’t dawdle on getting tickets - if you snooze then you may well lose.
