Lykke Li - 'I Know Places'

"I know places we can go babe."

This is about getting lost driving in Joshua Tree with your best friend (cc. Janelle Kroll) When life feels impossible, this song feels like a meditation. Lykke Li combined with Joshua Tree feels like a reset button has been hit in my heart.

Stevie Wonder - 'For Once In My Life'

"For once I can say this is mine you can't take it."

Stevie taught me about heartbreak and joy. He inspired me to sing. This song became the soundtrack for finding my own voice. I also named my dog after him, which is meant as the highest compliment.

Elton John - 'Tiny Dancer'

Elton is the soundtrack of my childhood and this song in particular should always make a favorites list. The scene in Almost Famous where this song plays is a classic.

Moses Sumney - 'Plastic'

"I know what it is to be broken and be bold."

Moses is the master of melody and lyric. His shows feel like church and his music is like scripture. I love the way this song makes me feel and I wanted to include him on this list because if he reads it, I want to sing a tune with him.

Kanye West - 'Streetlights'

"Let me know, do I still got time to grow?/ Things ain't always set in stone."

I love Kanye like Kanye loves Kanye, but this song and this album will always be quintessential to my collection. I love the mixture of innocence and harshness - a dichotomy I am fascinated by and wanted to capture in 'Love You With The Lights On'.
