It's quite possible that you've seen or heard Molly Sarlé without realising; she's one third of Mountain Man and has recently toured as part of Feist's live band. That is all prelude to her own solo project, which today comes into being via the debut single 'Human'. Sarlé tells us about the song:

“‘Human’ is about how we project onto other people, especially love interests, and being disappointed when an idealized version of another person crumbles away... It’s about coming to terms with the end of something by recognizing that everyone is flawed, and sometimes things just don't work. It’s possible to find joy in disappointment and letting go.”

Despite the song being about letting go of something you love, and even includes traces of desperation in the line “Who hasn’t talked to God like he’s a man?”, 'Human' still rings with redemption. Sarlé's voice is a beacon, flanked by resounding piano chords and warm acoustic guitar, which all come together in a gritty but lovable song, which is undoubtedly 'Human'.

The video for 'Human' features cameos from Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak), Amelia Meath (Sylvan Esso/Mountain Man), Alexandra Sauser-Monnig (Mountain Man), and Ryan Gustafson (The Dead Tongues). Check it out below.

Sarlé has signed to Partisan Records, with more exciting news coming in the very near future.
