Movie News
There’s been an absolute wave of trailers to wet your film going appetite out since we last spoke two weeks ago. First of all I have to begin with the cream of the crop and that is The Fighter, not to be confused with the embarrassment to film that was Channing Tatum’s Fighting. The Fighter stars Mark Wahlberg and Christian ‘Batman’ Bale currently taking a break from saving Gotham to become a fight promoter. The story revolves around the life of Micky ‘Irish’ Ward, played by Wahlberg, and his unlikely road to the world light welterweight title. The film is full of Hollywood talent including Amy Adams playing the love interest and looks set to drum up the same kind of Oscar fever that surrounded The Wrestler two years ago. But does it have the stamina to go the distance? Check out the trailer below and see what you think.
The next trailer which must be unavoidably discussed this fortnight, as it contains two of the biggest A-listers on the planet, is The Tourist. The film, cradling Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, seems to be Mr and Mrs Smith 2: This time it’s in Venice! Though hopefully the acting pedigree of arguably the two most beautiful people on the planet will stop this film sinking like the city it inhabits. See trailer below for lots of close-ups and explosions.
And although I’d like to cover a whole host of other trailers ranging from the eery and unusual Never Let Me Go starring Carrey Muligan and Keira Knightly to the rather predictable The Dilemma featuring Vince Vaughn and Kevin James. There is space enough left for one more trailer review and that place is reserved for newly appointed Hollywood go to guy Robert Downey Jr and his new film Due Date. The film directed by Todd The Hangover Phillips, who is reuniting with his Las Vegas compatriot Zach Galifianakis for this outing, revolves around a road trip, also another Todd Phillips film, as Downey Jr tries to make it home for the birth of his child. Unfortunately the trailer doesn’t look too promising or even that funny but with the genius director and a cameo from Jamie Foxx this is still definitely one to see.
Movie News is only one place this week and that’s on Facebook. Well, more precisely the new film based on the creation of Facebook, The Social Network. Penned by Aaron Sorkin, directed by David Fincher and starring, amongst others, Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake. The film is quickly approaching and so a new interactive trailer has been released. Check it out below. But believe me when I say that this is one film where you will definitely click ‘Like’. Check it out here Finally we come to the latest releases at the cinema. We have been hit by two cop movies in one go however the two are almost impossible to compare. On the one hand we have the Will Ferrell comedy The Other Guys and on the other we have the Ben Affleck featured and directed drama, The Town. While I have already mentioned the implausibility at trying to compare these two films I have no doubt which I would rather spend my money on. The Other Guys looks like a fine enough comedy and Will Ferrell screaming at Steve Coogan will undoubtedly have me in stitches but it won’t be his best, whereas The Town appears to be an intense and dramatic rollercoaster which could prove to be the making of Ben Affleck. And with co-stars such as Mad Mens’ John Hamm and Jeremy The Hurt Locker Renner it would certainly be what I’d spend my cash on. Take a gander below and keep a look out for The Rock.
