Besides the odd reissue here and there, Kevin Shields and his My Bloody Valentine cohorts have been a bit quiet since they released Loveless back in 1991.

It seems the musical equivalent of the 'boy that cried wolf' are finally set to release new material... and by the end of the year... and not just an album either.

Shields told the NME to expect an album out via his website before we hit the year 2013, with an EP to follow shortly after.

"I think with this record, people who like us will immediately connect with something. Based on the very, very few people who’ve heard stuff – some engineers, the band, and that’s about it – some people think it's stranger than 'Loveless', says Shields. "I don't. I feel like it really frees us up, and in the bigger picture it's 100 per cent necessary."

We'll believe it when we see (hear) it.
