Last year, Kane Strang, a young songwriter from Dunedin, New Zealand, put out the bedroom-rock gem Blue Cheese on Ba Da Bing! records. It caught the attention of many listeners for its rawness and honesty, as well as an obvious knack for melody. Among the people immediately attracted to Strang's work was Dead Oceans, who have snapped him up for the release of his second album, coming later this year.

For the new album Strang has stepped out of the bedroom and into the studio, with a fourpiece band around him to flesh-out his introspective sound. The first taste of this bolstered output comes in the form of 'Oh So You're Off I See'. As its title suggests, Strang is still his unaffected, humble self in his music, but with the addition of higher production values and creative input from bandmates, 'Oh So You're Off I See' is muscular in a way that he hasn't sounded before. It's an exciting step forward for the songwriter, and suggests that there's plenty more interesting work to come from him on the new album.

Listen to 'Oh So You're Off I See' below, and stay tuned for more information about the new album. Strang will be touring North America over the next couple of months, so you can get an early taste of the new sound on the road - check the tour dates here.
