Recorded in Montreal with Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) Some Are Lakes is the follow up to their acclaimed 2007 LP, Applause, Cheer, Boo, Hiss, which found Land Of Talk featured in publications such as The Fly, receiving glowing reviews in NME and The Independent, who called the LP, âa work of rare assurance, combining muscular college rock with stripped-down indie pop. Powell comes with a distinctive voice that can veer from an enraged wail to a melancholic murmur in the blink of an eye.â
Land of Talk spent the better part of 2007 on the road, touring throughout North Americaand Europe with such acts as The Decemberists, TapesânâTapes and Holy Fuck. Some Are Lakes showcases Powellâs raspy coo and vocal conviction along with roaring guitars which again take centre-stage with bassist Chris McCarron and drummer Andrew Barr (The Slip): a warm, bracing and assured second album.
