Having won a Grammy (a Norwegian Grammy, mind you) for their last LP, The Switch hit the studio with some real drive. In short, they wanted to keep growing, to push their sound further out into the world than ever before.

They've done just that with their approaching fifth album, Birds of Paradise. As an opening salvo, they've dropped off lead single 'What If' today, which The 405 is pleased to premiere.

The band's brand of sophistipop is as delicate and charming as ever, lulling the listener into a state of relaxation, a tad like if Real Estate leaned into Balearic vibes.

The band's lyricist, Pete Vollset, shares, "The lyrics are questioning the oft-repeated notion that “proper” adult life is boring and miserable and that protesting or postponing this is just childish and selfish. At the same time, the not quite proper adult narrator isn’t exactly a beacon of self-love and sunshine themselves, so who knows you know?"

Check out 'What If' below, and look out for Birds of Paradise this September.
