Rising star Phoebe Green made an impression last year with 'Dreaming Of', but she's taken her time in creating the follow-up that finally arrives today. 'Easy Peeler' quickly shows off the talent at play here, and she shows the depth of her ideas as she introduces the song by saying:

“I was thinking about a time when I really fancied someone and just wanted absolutely everything with them. I started listing typical things that couples do, and the lyrics started to form this sarcastic portrayal of what it means to be in a modern relationship, and the way people can control others’ perceptions of them as a couple, whether it be in a virtual or real life environment. People are proper obsessed with keeping up appearances and maintaining this perfect ideal, so the song highlights the naïvety of someone that is inexperienced anticipating what a relationship involves, based off what society and social media project.”

The jocular attitude of Green's approach is audible throughout 'Easy Peeler', most obviously in her acerbic lyricism where she chastises the "sweet sour taste of monogamy." However, the sharpness of the delivery is made all the more forceful by the rowdy and unpredictable post-punk approach she's taken, which shifts from plodding choruses to a sing-song bridge and then into an explosive chorus (with a stop for a dreamy interlude half way). 'Easy Peeler' keeps the listener on their toes, and goes to show that Phoebe Green has plenty of facets to her artistry which will surely be revealed over the course of her upcoming output.

'Easy Peeler' is coming out on Chess Club Records. Phoebe Green will be supporting Swim Deep over the coming months:
