Japanese post-rock titans MONO celebrate their 20th anniversary as a band this year, and prior to their appearance at the 15th edition of Birmingham's legendary Supersonic Festival this weekend, they put together a photo diary of their Spring European tour for the 405.

The celebration of MONO's two decades comes to a spectacular conclusion this December with Beyond The Past. The London event features two gigs at Oval Space curated by the band, capped off by a headline performance from MONO themselves at The Barbican, all taking place between December 13th and 14th.

11/4 Roadburn show 1

We started our European tour at the Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands. For the tenth anniversary of our record Hymn To The Immortal Wind we played it in its entirety joined by The Jo Qual Quartet. It was a honor for us to be invited by Tomas Lindberg from At The Gates. Such a wonderful festival.

12/4 Roadburn show 2

Our second show at the Roadburn Festival was a secret show announced earlier in the day. This show we focused on the darker and heavier side of our catalog past and present. The venue was The Het Patronaat which was the perfect setting for this show.

15/4 Berlin

We played at BiNuu in Berlin. It was very exciting to play a sold out show to this amazing crowd. Can't wait to come back.

19/4 Prague

Our show in Prague was sold out and we are very thankful. This was also the home town of our tour manager Libor and our sound man Amak. They were also very thankful to sleep in their own beds for one night.

21/4 Budapest

The audience in Budapest was so excited and full of energy. We enjoyed playing for them so much. It was such a great time and we were so grateful for their lovely enthusiasm.

2/5 Leipzig

The UT Connewitz venue was a former movie theater built in 1912. It was a very beautiful and memorable setting for our show. We were also very flattered and surprised by a special Mono beer created by the promoters and venue. All this combined with the excellent audience made for a really amazing night for us.

4/5 Brighton

So grateful for the sold out show in Brighton. The audience gave off such good energy and inspired us to play strong and loud. The area surrounding the venue is also so beautiful and we enjoyed exploring the beaches nearby.

6/5 Manchester

What a wonderful way to finish this leg of our European tour. The audience was so full of excitement and powerful energy. We loved playing for them. We also loved being on tour with Arabrot and Jo Quail. Such a pleasure to get to see them perform every night and spend time with them on the road.

See MONO in Birmingham this weekend at Supersonic Festival, and in London in December.
