Due in 2013, Pokémon X & Y promises a mix of new and old creatures for collection, along with a new storyline in (finally) a new, truly 3D game engine. These features will be joined by enhanced multiplayer communication which will allow players to "discover the secrets of Pokémon games and can collect, battle, and trade with each other immediately," according to Tsunekazu Ishihara, Pokémon Company CEO.

This could mark the biggest change to Pokémon in the franchise's history, as never before has there been a game in the main series rendered in 3D. Hopefully, this could lead to other new developments, and move away from the feature creep that has been the hallmark of design since Gold and Silver.

More information can be found on the Pokémon website, along with a video featuring some gameplay and the best rendered Pikachu outside of the secret labs where they're developing the Pokémon MMO.
