They say don't work with children or animals, but this 'they' are not aware of the 405's obsession for all things cat-related. Wait, we mean dog-related. Yes, dogs.

Despite all the love we continue to receive for our Acts and their Cats series, there was always a little voice in the back of our minds telling us something wasn't right. That voice - of course - came from some of our dog-loving followers on Twitter. Rather than putting a leash on your ideas, we decided to embrace our canine friends by giving birth to a new series on the 405: Pop Pups.

For the inaugural edition, 405 photographer Phil Smithies spent some time with London trio Flowers and their pug, Batman (or Slowcat if you know him well). Check out the full gallery below, and head here for a handy list of Flowers' upcoming tour dates (and here for some music).

Firstly, what's your dog's name and what made you pick it?

Batman. We picked it because... well it just suits him perfectly, nothing to do with the superhero, in fact we've forgotten about the connotation now we've had Batman this long, he's the only Batman to us! Sometimes we call him Slowcat or Marcel.

When did you get the dog and how would you describe your relationship?

We got him last summer, he's 9 months old now! Our relationship is like having some weird little leprechaun friend that lives with us and snores on our heads every morning that we love a lot anyway.

What's your dog's favourite toy?

He's not fussy, but he loves lids especially much. We got him all these cute toys but if you take a lid off anything he will have it off you in a second and be so happy, I think it's because they skitter unevenly across the floor.

Do you think your dog likes your music?

I think he likes it but he prefers when we're not playing because he gets more attention!

Has your dog shown any musical talent?

Yes. Firstly if we play guitar he'll stand on his hind legs and try and scratch the strings with his paws, also we recently got him one of those egg shakers as a toy from a music shop and he runs with it in his mouth very rhythmically.

If your dog was a famous jazz musician, who would he be?

He has a big cheeks like Dizzy Gillespie.

Does your dog have any special skills?

He rings a doorbell when he wants to go to the toilet.

Has the dog "presented" you with anything?

Just lots of guitar picks. We always thought if a guitar pick fell on the floor it basically vanished forever, but Batman knows where to find them.

What is your favourite celebrity dog (real or fictional)?

Laika the Soviet astronaut dog because she went to space!

Lastly, what do you have coming up (non-dog related) that we should know about?

Well mostly we have dog-related stuff coming up... But we also have a UK tour in March which we're excited about and after that we're supporting Luna around Spain in April. In between we'll be writing and recording some more songs.
