They say don't work with children or animals, but they're obviously not aware of the 405's obsession for all things cat-related. Wait, we mean dog-related. Yes, dogs.

Following our recent feature on LCC and their dog Obélix, The 405's Photo Editor Tim Boddy hung out with Will Young and his two dogs at L'Escargot, London. Check out the wonderful photos below.

Will Young's sixth studio album, 85% Proof, is out on 25th May on Island Records.

Firstly, what are the names of your dogs and what made you pick them (the names and the dogs)?

The border terrier is Esme and I picked her because my sister has 2. I looked after them and just think they're the best dog for London and countryside as they are still quite scrappy and tough looking!!

Nelly is the standard Dachshund - she was meant to be a miniature but there was a breakdown in communication with the breeder (!) so she's a normal size and again a good size. They have great characters and she's a great friend with Esme.

When did you get the dogs and how would you describe your relationship?

I got Esme just after my last theatre tour and Nelly just after I finished my new record. My relationship is complete love for them- Esme has been an amazing companion. She goes to work with me, walks in the streets off the lead and is my mate.

Nelly is still like a baby and can be needy when scared and also frustrating when she craps inside. But she's also joyous when playing and she wakes me up by biting my nose.

If your dogs were famous jazz musicians, who would they be?
Nelly would be Chet Baker - a bit crazy. Esme - Dizzy Gillespie.

Do your dogs have any special skills?
They sleep... a lot.

How many cats (or ducks) have your dogs chased?
Esme hates cats and gets attacked by both them and ducks. They are both indifferent. Cows and sheep are fair game for them though.

What is your favourite celebrity dog (real or fictional)?
Shadow the sheep dog - my favourite book. He fought off wolves and protected sheep from golden eagle attacks. Unlike my two.

Lastly, what do you have coming up (non-dog related) that we should know about?
I am going to try and train hamsters to be gymnasts... to my new music. It is looking promising.
