One of the biggest stories in world music this year is that of Pussy Riot and their imprisonment following the bands controversial guerrilla gig in a Moscow church earlier this year.

The story of Pussy Riot has been a tempestuous tale of freedom of speech and oppression taking many a turn along the way, the latest of which is news that band member, Yekaterina Samutsevich has dismissed her defence lawyer causing the group's appeal to be adjourned until October 10th.

The appeal, which is only to have the verdict reassessed rather than the evidence against them scrutinised again is unlikely to change the sentence imposed on the trio, and reasons for Samutsevich sacking her lawyer are unknown just yet. Other members of the band are still in hiding despite claims that they have been found with campaigners in Russia saying they have passed a list of names onto the police.
