Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas. Not really. Not merry, not for Rdio, who - as part of the streaming service's acquisition by all-round bigger fish Pandora - will be ceasing operations next week.

"As part of the acquisition," read an email from the company to its subscribers, "the Rdio service will be shutting down worldwide on December 22, 2015 at approximately 5pm PST."

The acquisition was announced last month, after Rdio filed for bankruptcy. Pandora paid out $75 million, which is quite a drop for Rdio, once valued at £500m. Rdio said in a statement at the time that it was "proud to have created an innovative and critically acclaimed global music streaming service."

For now, Rdio users can use the newly initiated Farewell feature to look back on past favourites, comments, and general data of yesteryear. Ahh... halcyon days.
