Arctic Monkeys

Record Shopping With... Alice Merton @ Rough Trade WestThis was one of the album's I didn't know that well of the Arctic Monkeys so I chose this to remind myself of how unique their sound is. It's instantly recognizable and I love the guitar and bass lines they use. It seems so effortless the album, as if they just went into the studio and recorded these songs in one take and said "that's it, take it or leave it."

Keane

Record Shopping With... Alice Merton @ Rough Trade WestEvery time I listen to this album I get so nostalgic and emotional. I'm not sure if it's the lyrics or if it's the melodies, but they take me back to certain periods of my life that were quite difficult, but still beautiful. They inspired me to write more songs on the piano. This album has such beautiful piano sounds and melodies. There is such a melancholy in the vocals that I feel is so unique. It's so honest and sad.

Queen

Record Shopping With... Alice Merton @ Rough Trade WestQueen has always been one of my biggest influences. My Dad collected all their records and we would listen to them in the car when I was young. I love the vocal harmonies and the melodies on this album, they are so memorable. Whenever I listen to this, I immediately want to do better. It's like hearing how amazing songs can actually turn out and realising that there are so many songs still out there waiting to be written and emotions waiting to be matched with music.

The Killers

Record Shopping With... Alice Merton @ Rough Trade WestWhen I found out that the Killers were releasing a new album I couldn't believe it. Every song on their new album has so much honesty and depth in it. I love the lyrics and how each song has its own story. The Killers have influenced my music in so many ways, both sound and lyric wise. This album felt like it was the perfect length. I love how they stay true to their sound and true to honest music.

Tame Impala

Record Shopping With... Alice Merton @ Rough Trade WestWhen I heard this album all I wanted to do was dance. They are incredibly talented when it comes to the instrumentation. I like how they think outside of the box and how different the music sounds to what you normally hear. This album feels like it was released in the '80s and that's probably one of the reasons I love it. Their basslines and grooves also inspired a lot of my own music.
