The Doors - Morrison Hotel

This was a big record for me growing up. Strange, brooding and mysterious all in one. Jim Morrison’s dangerous allure was all too appealing, as is Robby Krieger on guitar. 'Blue Sunday', 'The Spy', they were all mine, so many nights lying in bed listening to this record over and over.

Etta James - Peaches

Just something about this woman’s voice reaches right around my heart. She has this laser sharp focus and depth that could melt you. I was always aware of her, but it wasn’t until I heard 'At Last' in the film Pleasantvillle that my heart just exploded. Then I started getting deep into her recordings and discovered what a punk she was too.

Ricki Lee Jones - Ricki Lee Jones

So this was the first song my father taught me to play on guitar. I was listening to her album at the time and he thought the plucky intro to 'Chuck E's in Love' would be a good start, in retrospect it was! She has a super groovy, jazzy, talky way of singing I really gravitated towards.

Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland

Hendrix appealed to me first as a songwriter, I also loved his voice, he’s got this super gentle spirit I always found calming. Growing up near the ocean also plays a big part for me, I’ll forever equate this record with the ocean. The vast body of water, pushing outward, pulling in, it feels like 'Voodoo Chile' or 'Burning of the Midnight Lamp' to me. Whenever I wanna feel right at home I’ll put this record on. Like it resets everything.

Stevie Wonder - Innervisions

I initially picked up this album for the sleeve. It was peeking out of my fathers vinyl collection, I thought the artwork was incredible, so I put it on and was officially blown to pieces. I felt like it took the melodic beauty of The Beatles and married it with a lifetime of soul and blues. So rich, so magnificently arranged and played and deeply meaningful.
