Vasco Silva - drums, vocals

Record Shopping with WhalesLCD Soundsystem - LCD Soundsystem: LCD Soundsystem is the self-titled debut album from one of our favourite electronic bands of all time. It's a two-record album with a great set of nine new songs and seven singles they've been releasing since 2002. It has an amazing artwork that represents perfectly what's inside: the destruction of punk music with the glamour of 00's disco. For me, as a drummer, it's quite an inspiration since it mixes a non-perfect post-punk drum sound with electronic beats. In addition to the great studio albums they've been doing, their live show is one of the best from lighting to performance. Also, it's very interesting the amount of electronic gear they bring.

Record Shopping with WhalesNils Frahm - Encores 1: This Nils Frahm EP from 2018 is not an obvious choice, but 2017 and 2018 were years where I explored this kind of solo artists. Nils Frahm came along with this discovery and immediately became one of my favourites. Despite his introspective and relaxing vibe he also shows with his ten albums and four EPs that he has an electronic perspective. I think we applied unconsciously this paradoxical perspective on our debut album.

Roberto Oliveira - guitar, keys

Record Shopping with WhalesWild Beasts - Boy King: Wild Beasts have always fascinated me because of their atmospheric sonority, which is at the same time very energetic. Hayden Thrope's peculiar voice provides a distinct characteristic to the rest of their music. Boy King is a recent album (2016) but it influenced me a lot in terms of synth and guitar riffs inside of my own band. Their catchy and exuberant qualities called my attention. This is an even more special album since it was the band's last one.

Record Shopping with WhalesNirvana - Bleach: Bleach was the debut album from the great grunge band Nirvana. Not only it was their first album but also the first one I've ever bought. It immediately fascinated me with its pure and energetic vibe. I felt it would be very special in my life. All that aura and teen sonority around 90's grunge really influenced me and songs like 'About a Girl' and 'School' are a part of my teenagehood and music growth as it made me start learning the guitar.

Pedro Carvalho - bass, keys, vocals

Record Shopping with WhalesBeach House - 7: I can say this band is part of the beginning of my journey in the indie music world. During my high school years, I listened to The Cure, Pink Floyd, Depeche Mode, kind of the old school alternative music. At that time I was not used to going to music festivals, so my first festival was in my freshman year of university where I discovered the “modern” alternative music scene. Beach House was in the lineup and was one of the bands that I liked the most in that festival. From then on, a whole indie world was born in front of me.

Record Shopping with WhalesMGMT - Little Dark Age: A band that I've listened for many years, with a break in each time and each time a different feeling and maturity. Honestly, I didn’t expect much from this album since I had mixed feelings regarding the last one. When I listened to the first single 'Little Dark Age' I was amazed and quickly raised my expectations when I heard the second and the third. In the end, it surprised me and became one of the best albums of 2018 in my opinion.
