The incredibly talented Sam Smith has been won the Critics Choice Award for 2014. The runners up were Chlöe Howl and Ella Eyre, and he joins the ranks of Florence + the Machine, Adele, Emeli Sandé, and last year's winner Tom Odell. He'll be presented with his award at 'The BRITs are Coming' nominations show, which airs on 9 January on ITV.

You probably know Smith from his work with the boys in Disclosure, in particular the smash song 'Latch' for which he provided the vocal hook. He's also collaborated with Naughty Boy on the number 1 hit 'La La La.' His debut EP Nirvana is expected in the spring, and needless to say his evergrowing fanbase is eagerly awaiting its release. Upon winning the award, he said "It means the world to me, it's the only award I really care about. I've watched the BRITs religiously every single year. I'm such a massive fan of female singers and some of the females who have won this award have been my biggest inspirations, so to even be nominated means a lot to me, a lot."
