It has been announced that the American-'60s-pop-star-turned-UK-citizen-composer-and-producer Scott Walker will be or in fact has created the original score for a film called The Childhood of a Leader.

Probably based on the Jean-Paul Sartre short story of the same name, the film is "a chilling fable about the rise of fascism in the 20th Century" and stars the ever-vampiric Robert Pattinson in the loosely titular role of a young American living at France around the time of the Treaty of Versailles, culminating in the cultivation of a new and decidedly fascist persona. It also sees Bérénice Bejo (The Artist), Stacy Martin (Nymphomaniac) and Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs, etc.) in starring roles.

Walker will also be releasing the much-hyped album with Sunn O))), Soused, on October 20th via 4AD. Here's a disturbing trailer for that collaboration. Given that he can create unsettling music like this, and with his now avant-garde status, his score will most likely be a fitting shroud of sound for this look into Europe's regretful past.

Shooting of Childhood of a Leader will begin at the start of 2015 in Budapest.
