Los Angeles singer songwriter Shannon Lay has announced her new album: it's called August and, appropriately, comes out on August 23rd through Sub Pop. The album's title refers to the month in 2017 when she quit her day job to focus on music, and two years later her new set will be out in the world. The recording was assisted by long time friend Ty Segall, with Lay commenting “I believe whoever you record with tends to affect the mood of music and Ty really brought this jovial sense that I hadn’t really explored yet.”

Following the recent unveiling of her cover of Karen Dalton's 'Something On Your Mind', Shannon Lay has shared her first brand new piece of music from August, in the slowly igniting soft rocker 'Nowhere'. A track that starts in quiet and contemplative mode, Lay's thoughts reflecting off into the eternal depths of her imagination, 'Nowhere' gradually builds into a fiery brand of acoustic rock, imbued by organ spurring on her restless mind.

Of the song and visual for 'Nowhere', which you can check out below, Shannon says “I want this song to emphasise the importance of enjoying the journey. The video is moments of in between travel footage, different settings around my home, singing in the bounty of spring. There is so much power in presence, enjoy every moment, savour every second. Cherish the memories made along the way and appreciate how they change and shape you.”

Shannon Lay's August comes out through Sub Pop on August 23rd. She's touring as part of Ty Segall's Freedom Band at their upcoming residencies in Los Angeles, New York, Paris, London, Berlin, and Haarlem, before supporting Mikal Cronin on his North American tour.
