It's been two years since Zach Saginaw aka Shigeto released his last album, No Better Time Than Now, but now he's back with an EP called Intermission, set for release on 30th October via Ghostly International.

The title of new the release is fitting: with Saginaw on the road "for a long time now," whilst also working on other projects, he admits that the songs are not necessarily representative of a new direction. "They're not meant as a strong message, but more of a taste, like a halftime show of sorts," he said.

"I haven't found the next step for me yet. I've been making loads of music as always, but I'm still looking for that concrete new path."

We also get to listen to 'Pulse', the first track to be taken from Intermission. It's founded on a tapestry of luscious percussion, woodblocks, marimbas, chimes chattering together, a steady kick propelling it forward slowly with the warm chords plunking alongside, a tract of atmospheric music, complete with looping clusters of bleeping melodies and occasional washes of deoxygenated spooksome sounds – as subtly detailed and intensely engaging as Shigeto's music ever was.
