Toby Hayes really knows how to pull a rabbit out of hat, doesn't he? The former Meet Me In St. Louis frontman's project Shoes And Socks Off has gone from lo-fi singer-songwriter project to orchestral full-band heights in just a few years, and he's far from stopping his u-turns just yet.

Miles of Mad Water is the title of the fifth record from the... experimental electronic-cum-avant-garde beatmaker outfit? Yes, you read that correctly: gone is technical tranquility of Hayes' acoustic guitar, and the path down big strings and melancholic melodies seems to have to a dead end. 'Tork Sport', the first track to drop form the new record which is out 14th May, sees Hayes toying with pulsing, almost nu-disco beats spare, minimalistic noise. Fans of his earlier work have nothing to fear though, as his moody, down-in-the-dumps attitude remains in aesthetically as well as lyrically.
