Here is some lo-fi pop all the way from New Zealand. It's in the form of 'Wash You Away' by 20-year-old Marina Sakimoto, aka Shunkan. Fogged with a constant swarming haze of lo-fi crackle, and with distortion nestled inside all its elements, the track is a nevertheless bouncy number that combines vocals that lilt in a punk–country mix with jangling guitar joined by nearly out-of-earshot bass flourishes for a wonderfully subverted version of the singer-songwriter staple, twanging dusty and plaintive in its final section where Marina's voice is full of feeling.Wonderfully done. Oh and this is taken from her debut Honey, Milk and Blood EP, out 5th May on Art Is Hard Records.
