Earlier today during a special Reddit AMA, Sigur Rós announced plans to release the band's eighth studio album sometime later this year.

Word of the album's title is not yet available, but the band did leave a short preview of their new song 'sr7' on their site. The song is shockingly heavy and brooding, considering the band's celebrated atmospheric melodies. The preview is available below.

News of the upcoming LP came with a few changes, however. The band's initial founder, keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson, will be leaving the group, making Sigur Rós a trio.

The AMA came a few weeks before the band sets out on their massive world tour, which begins in Portugal February 13th. Ticket and tour information can be seen here.
