Shortly after London duo Simian Mobile Disco officially announced its upcoming fourth studio LP Whorl, James Ford and Jas Shaw debuted the first single from the album, 'Tangents'.

As previously reported, Whorl was recorded in a ripping three-day California session in front of an audience of 900. Like the rest of the album, 'Tangents' exclusively features modular synths and sequencers. However despite its live origins, 'Tangents' only feels live in the sense of a climactic build-up; there's no audience to be heard.

The result is a wondrous, if not supremely simple edge. The nerve of complexities regularly laced throughout the duo's work is evident, but the aching rise and fall of the synth work sticks out breathlessly.
