"One cannot survive on content alone" my dear old Dad used to say, and he was right, life can get pretty tough on the farm. There are times when you have to leave the tweets and press releases behind, head into the big city, and stock up on IRL interaction. We don't like it, neither do the people we meet, but sometimes it has to be done. Here are your Singles of the Week:

Mitski - 'Your Best American Girl'

I described Mitski's debut album as underloved a couple of years ago, but I'm happy to say that as we get closer to the release of her second album it's clear that is no longer applicable. Puberty 2 comes out in June on Dead Oceans and if it has songs half as good as this one... etc etc etc

Girl Pusher - 'Wheres My Shit'

Deathbomb Arc is home to the type of music that makes you want to burn down your house and take up life on the road. Girl Pusher is no different.

Aries - 'Nieve De Noche'

Now the weather is changing and the days are getting longer, transcendent pop music is exactly what we all need. This is taken from the album Adieu Or Die, which came out on K Records a couple of weeks ago.

Nick Leng - 'Playing With Fire'

This is a gentle montage sequence of that party you had on the beach all those years ago. It's the way this song is produced, it has been made to drag that feeling out of you. The 10" is available to pre-order now. The party, with hindsight, was a shitfest.

Lone - 'Backtail Was Heavy'

Same, same but different. Heavy, heavy beats. Space for several different trains of thought all crashing into one station. I am William's rave nostalgia party.

Anyway, enough of my shit, here’s a spotify playlist with as many songs from my column this year as i could find on there... but I think that's quite enough. I promise to give this column all of the care and attention that something that is outdated and overlooked in a couple of days deserves.
