Well, this last week has been a right old turn up for the books, with PJ Harvey and Yuck exchanging the lead before Visions of Trees pushed through to victory with 42.66%, pushing ‘The Words That Maketh Murder’ into second place with 28.33% of the vote. This week there is once again a very strong line up, from Lykke Li and the release of ‘I Follow Rivers’, to Frankie and the Heartstrings’ singalong anthem ‘Hunger’, which builds up to the eponymous debut album released next Monday. Maps and Atlases give us some ‘Living Decorations’ to play with, and Mirrors have released ‘Into The Heart’ on Skint Records, which they celebrated with their Valentine’s Day ‘Love Songs Mixtape’ (here) - almost certainly the only decent thing to ever come out of Valentine’s Day. Mercury Prize nominees Villagers release ‘Becoming A Jackal’, but I’d like to think we’re already familiar with it, whilst Leeds five piece Eagulls have the ‘Council Flat Blues’, courtesy of Moshi Moshi. As you can see, another brilliant line up of tracks, and this competition is becoming increasingly unpredictable; it seemed impossible to topple PJ Harvey over the weekend. I’ll predict a JLS and Tinie Tempah whitewash (oh behave) and leave it up to you to correct this abomination to sound with your fantastic music taste.
