A far closer run contest this last week, with Deerhoof only just pipping Grouplove to the honours by a mere three votes, taking 35% percent of the final result. Austra and Darwin Deez were left propping up the table whilst, in my opinion, another surprise with Lower Dens completing the top three. Again there's a pretty strong field of contenders for this week, including the hypest of hype bands, the return of Liam Gallagher, and some simply brilliant songs- take a bow Cosmo Jarvis. It only seems appropriate then to start with the afore mentioned Cosmo Jarvis and 'Gay Pirates, followed by the ubiquitous Vaccines with 'Post Break Up Sex' and, I'll be honest, I've taken a big seat on the bandwagon and am genuinely typing this wearing a Vaccines t-shirt. I do understand I'm doing myself no favours. Also dividing opinion, with dividing used in the loosest possible way, is Liam Gallagher and Beady Eye and their debut single 'The Roller'. I'm expecting aggressive usage of sunshiiiiiiiine. You might need to freshen up with 'Ants' by the irritatingly secretive and impossible to find Elephant (reviewed here), or perhaps The Collectable Few's 'Headstrong', which you can alternatively find here. Rounding things up are The Go! Team and 'Buy Nothing Day', which instantly gains brownie points for featuring Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast, and finally more scuzzy lo-fi courtesy of Coasting. Lovely stuff, a very strong collection as January draws to a close, and an apology for the lack of an Elephant video; the myspace ishere, and that is as far as I have been able to get in hunting them down. My bad. I hope you can forgive me, and try to enjoy nonetheless.
