Resina - 'Not Here' [405 Premiere]

Resina is the alias of Karolina Rec, a cellist based in Poland currently counting the days until October 7th, when her self titled album is released on Fat Cat Records imprint 130701. Her music featured on the label's birthday sampler which we also helped premiere last month. Sitting seamlessly alongside the likes of Max Richer, Hauschka, Dustin O'Halloran and Johann Johannsson is no mean feat. In fact Resina adds a level which even those guys don't reach. Her compositions contain an essence of humanity which is unlike almost all music. A sort of primordial fluidity, an instinctive reflection of our innermost processes, our thought speed matched by sound. I've made it sound terrible but if you listen to her music you'll find your internal monologue syncing up with its ebb and flow, which is utterly captivating.

Tanukichan - 'Enough'

Enough is the first song from Radiolove, which is available to pre-order on Toro Y Moi's label, All Company Records. Chaz Bundick isn't just releasing the EP, he recorded/produced it in his home studio - armed with that knowledge you'll hear it in the drum sound. When you hit play it's clearly not about Bundick, it is very much Hannah van Loon's show. Enough is a wall of contrasting shades, her voice finding melodies through in the spaces around it, pictures emerging from the noise. You know how this kind of music works by now. This is a good example of it.

Steve Hauschildt - 'Strands'

This is the title track from Hauschildt's first album on Kranky and as you'd expect, it's total fucking bliss, you'll be able to bed down with it on October 28th. I don't want to write any more about it because I want you to look out of the window or close your eyes or whatever you need to do to dwell on it, cherish these moments.

Exploded View - 'Lost Illusions'

Sacred Bones have put out some incredible music in recent times, this latest single from Exploded View is no exception, it's from their self titled album which comes out next week. It sounds like a flickering black and white film of somebody having an existential crisis, by a massive bonfire, as a beach party rages around them. Listen to it and see what I mean. Maybe it's because I've been that guy, or because I'm always that guy, ok, fine, whatever.

Anyway, here's a spotify playlist with as many songs from my column this year as i could find on there... I think that's quite enough. I promise to give this column all of the care and attention that something that is outdated and overlooked in a couple of days deserves. You can submit your music to The 405 by using your initiative and clicking around the site, although I will unsubscribe from your mailing list. Have a great day.
