I've been sporadically writing about music in a public forum for eight years and I have run out of excuses. Yoni Wolf once sang that you just swallow the cold and follow your breath until death, and there is a lot to be said for just swallowing it down and keeping it in your lungs. As my dear old Dad used to say, "content won't keep you warm at night". Here are your singles of the week:

DM Stith - "War Machine"

Much like Son Lux, here is a guy who creates music so flawless and perfect that you spend the entire time looking for a fault and forgetting to enjoy actually listening to it. War Machine is the best song, I want to say full stop, but I mean that he has recorded so far, which is also fine. I mean, when you listen to it for the second time, actually take in the lyrics on top of everything else. The new album is called Pigeonheart, you can consume it at the end of July, and you should.

Leyya - "Butter"

I accidentally saw Leyya whilst in Estonia recently and had a great time. Don't resist the urge to enjoy this, it's a good pop song and you need to stop the internal dialogue before it goes any further, let yourself enjoy things, stop being a prick. Anyway, I'm sure it's part of a big campaign and there is an album coming and whatnot, I hope they get big in America. That would be nice for them.

Garden Centre - "Riding"

It's a joy to hear music like this when rooting out embeds for my weekly page of content. I love everything about this.

Gioia - "White Lies"

This song is taken from an EP that will be released on Godmode on June 10th. It seems like the encapsulation of my own overtired existential crisis, the build, the release, the confusion - I need all of it.

Anyway, enough of my shit, here’s a spotify playlist with as many songs from my column this year as i could find on there... but I think that's quite enough. I promise to give this column all of the care and attention that something that is outdated and overlooked in a couple of days deserves. You can submit your music to The 405 by using your initiative and clicking around the site, although I will unsubscribe from your mailing list. Have a great day.
