According to some well known newspapers today, legendary grunge rockers Nirvana will reunite this evening for the '12.12.12' concert in aid of Hurricane Sandy. Oh, and tanding in for the late Kurt Cobain will be none other than Sir Paul McCartney.

We're still not sure how much truth there is in the story, The Sun quotes McCartney as saying, "I didn’t really know who they were. They are saying how good it is to be back together. I said 'Whoa? You guys haven’t played together for all that time?'," adding, "And somebody whispered to me ‘That's Nirvana. You're Kurt.' I couldn't believe it:

If true it will be the first time in some twenty years that Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear will play together. So far the only confirmed member on the billing is Foo Fighter's Frontman Grohl. Head to the official 12.12.12 site for details on how to stream the fundraising event live tonight.

In the meantime, who would be your choice for a Cobain stand in?
