On the bank holiday weekend that spans from 23-24 May, Southampton's city centre will play host to the new festival from Bestival's founder Rob Da Bank, Common People Festival. Sadly, there haven't been any bands confirmed yet, but it seems to be right in line with Bestival's mentality as “legendary stalwarts of the festival scene and guaranteed crowd pleasers” have been guaranteed in addition to exciting new groups.

Similar to the Lollapalooza festival which takes place in the heart of downtown Chicago, Rob Da Bank says that this won't be your typical outdoor festival experience. In a statement, he said “This isn’t a camping show, it’s not a tents, wellies and car packed to the rafters experience. It’s a metropolitan two-day show easy to access and open to all ages" which doesn't sound too bad if I say so myself.

The founder said he'd been offered tons of ideas and places for a new Bestival offshoot, but once he found Southampton's city centre, he knew it was the right fit.“It wasn’t until we found the beautiful site of the common that we felt it was right to start a new chapter in Bestival’s history.”

The news comes after it was revealed that he'd been in talks to expand the festival to both North America and throughout the rest of Europe back in August. If you're worried that another expansion will hurt their theatrical sense of mind at all, you can rest easy knowing that it'll be “an enchanted wonderland of eye-popping attractions and fun-fuelled escapism.”
