Back in the early '80s, Lena d'Água made a strong musical reputation for herself in Portugal through her membership in art-pop band Salada de Frutas, and her work as a band leader alongside songwriter alongside songwriter Luis Fonseca and backing band Atlântida.

35 years on, boxfresh new Antipodean record label Strangelove Music has selected two of her more left-of-centre moments for their inaugural 12" vinyl release. While 'Jardim Zoológico' reframes new wave, post punk and dub into a precise pop framework, 'Tao' sees Luis' keyboard work setting the backdrop a dreamy New Age synth retooling of the traditional Portugese fado vocal style.

Based on the strength of this 12", we should be able to expect some rather marvellous things from Strangelove Music over the coming months.

Strangelove Music's Lena d'Água 12" will be available for purchase from the 30th April 2017.
