I don't think I've ever seen a song tagged with "drunken whaler", "harpoon" and "sailor" – some very nautical themes right here for the nautically themed 'Harpoon' by Glaswegian soonbe; sea spray trickles, gigantic drums beat out war galley rhythm, boards creak and ropes strain. In amongst these naturalistic, bellicose sounds, sub-bass kicks boom out a slowly swaying trap vibe – vocal samples fade in and out from some unspoken, unseen place with pagan poignancy. This is dead-of-night stuff, wholly based in the violence and solitude of darkness, and another interesting instalment in the growing gulf of experimental trap music, celebrating low frequencies and organic sounds.
